Casa Terra Nova

Casa Terra Nova is a cosy and comfortable holiday house with pool for 6 guests, situated in a large south facing plot with majestic shade-providing trees and palms. From the terrace and pool there are gorgeous views over the rolling evergreen countryside down to the sea, which is only 20 minutes' drive away.

All rooms in the house are of generous proportions, light and with good quality furniture. The heart of the house is the airy living and dining rom, air conditioned, with large windows and wonderful views to the southern terrace and down to the sparkling sea. The kitchen is equipped with everything you may need. The larder next door has a further fridge/freezer, cool box, iron and ironing board. At the rear of the house, there are the two large bedrooms with air conditioning, the two bathrooms with shower, one with bathtub, bidet and WC, as well as the guest WC. One of the large bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom.

Almost all rooms have access to the mostly covered terrace that runs around the house, giving welcome shade in the summer months. The covered south terrace offers stunning sea views. Up a winding staircase is the first floor which also has a separate entrance from outside and offers privacy. Here there is another large bedroom and bathroom, as well as the 80 sq. m roof terrace with beautiful views over the evergreen Algarvian hinterland to the sea. For larger groups of guests, there is another living area on the first floor with more sleeping possibilities, this can be made available for an extra charge.

Longer-term guests are welcome in the winter months.

The second “living room” is probably the large pool area, with a 5 x 10 m salt water pool, surrounded by a terrace and a lawn area, which is shaded by two palm trees and a very large oak tree. Thanks to the skin-friendly salt water, you can stay in the pool for hours, and an exterior shower and the BBQ complete the pool area.n.

All our guests are amazed (rightly) at the huge park-like gardens that were established, and cared for, with much love. At the time of purchase of the plot more than 20 years ago, the existing trees were kept, i.e. carob trees, oak trees, olive trees, strawberry trees (the fruit of the strawberry tree is distilled into the firewater of the Algarve - “Medronho”).

Like most northern Europeans we envisaged a southern European garden with palm trees in it, so these were planted and are now many meters high. At the time, we also brought over yuccas and cacti that had until then led a sad existence n a German living room. Today some of these are as high as the house. There is also a small orchard with oranges, lemons, figs, apricots and plums.

The salt water pool with its lawn surround was strategically placed in the garden. Here you can relax without disturbances, simply a place to chill. All the many natural stone walls in the garden were constructed with stones found on the plot.

And so grew, over the years, a large and picturesque garden full of many decorative plants and cacti. The remainder of the south facing plot is left to nature and is partly accessible via small paths that you are welcome to explore.
